There are many ways you can make money on social networking giant Facebook, and turns out there is a new addition to the list: lawsuits.
This one happened as recently as March 2014 an involved a girl in 6th grade going by the name Riley Stratton who got embroiled in a scandal with officials at her former school. The school officials caught her writing unflattering comments on her Facebook account regarding the system that monitors the school halls.
The girl, flanked by the American Civil Liberties Union in Minnesota, slapped the school with a lawsuit for violating her personal data and private life after she was forced to hand over her Facebook logins. She had been accused of posting her dislike for one of her teachers’ aides whom she accused of being mean. This, despite the fact that she had posted the comments while at home, which was one of the defense’s arguments.
She ended up receiving a sum of $70,000 in cash. The school has refused to take liability for the alleged offence, but paying the settlement nonetheless. She has since dropped out of school and is being home schooled.
